Patrick Fisher, Founder & Managing Partner
Mr. Fisher founded Creation Investments in 2007, leveraging a strong background in Emerging Markets and Private Equity to build a leading Impact Investing firm. He is responsible for overall leadership and management, including deal generation, due diligence, deal structuring, and negotiation, along with capital raising and investor relations. Mr. Fisher also has portfolio management responsibility along with Mr. Vander Weele and Mr. Wagner, and is currently a director for many Creation portfolio companies. He is a market leader in EM and Impact Investing, having an exceptional track record in equity and debt transactions in businesses which serve the Bottom of the Economic Pyramid (BOP) through microfinance / financial services, health care, affordable housing, clean energy, and technology.
Prior to founding Creation Investments, Mr. Fisher spent the majority of his career working in the financial services industry, most recently for JPMorgan Chase. His work experience includes years of service in International Banking and Global Treasury and Trade Services, primarily covering Asia and Latin America. Mr. Fisher lived in China, specifically in Hong Kong and Beijing. Prior to that, Mr. Fisher marketed interest rate, commodity foreign exchange derivatives on Bank One’s Chicago trading floor. He received his credit underwriting training from American National Bank in Chicago. He has started numerous businesses, established three previous investment funds and has served on the board of several for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. His past experience includes executive leadership for a not-for-profit organization in Chicago. Mr. Fisher is a graduate of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where he received a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance and Marketing. He also received his Bachelor of Arts, magna cum laude, at the University of Notre Dame, where he majored in Philosophy, Theology, and Computer Applications. Mr. Fisher has studied ancient Greek, speaks Spanish and basic Mandarin Chinese. He is a Certified Cash Manager, Certified Treasury Professional and a member of Mensa. Mr. Fisher is a frequent guest lecturer and panelist at Northwestern, University of Chicago and industry conferences. He lives in Chicago, Illinois with his wife Jenny Nicole, son Desmond, daughter Meara, son Brendan and dog Bacon.
Ken Vander Weele, Co-Founder & Partner
Mr. Vander Weele is the co-founder of Creation Investments and serves as the Chief Investment Officer. He is a founding board member Creation Investments Social Ventures Fund I and was instrumental in the establishment of Creation Investments’ model and pipeline. Prior to Creation Investments, Mr. Vander Weele was the President of the Investment Services Division at Opportunity International, a global microfinance network. In this role, Mr. Vander Weele was responsible for the development and oversight of all commercial MFIs institutions within the network, garnering over $1 billion in assets over his tenure. From 2000 to 2008, he was in charge of investment banking services to procure debt and equity capital to finance development and growth of commercial microfinance institutions, overseeing feasibility studies, research, due diligence and financing of MFIs in emerging markets. He was responsible for the management of the Opportunity Transformation Investments (OTI), an investment fund that he helped establish and that has made investments in microfinance institutions in Africa, Central Asia, Eastern Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America, the Pacific, and the Caribbean, and the development of its investment philosophy, policies and strategies. He also is credited for the creation of new MFIs and the successful conversion of non-governmental institutions into microfinance banks.
Mr. Vander Weele held various positions with the network including Regional Vice President for Eastern Europe and Interim President for the network in the U.S, following the resignation of the CEO. From 1975 to 1981, Mr. Vander Weele worked at Grant Thornton in Madison, Boston, and Chicago. He was the Senior Vice President, CFO and a founding shareholder for Graphisphere Corporation from 1981 to 1991. Mr. Vander Weele received a bachelor of business administration degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison and a Ph.D. from the Open University of the U.K. under the sponsorship of the Oxford Center for Mission Studies and Oxford University. He has also completed coursework from the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He is a Certified Public Accountant. His business activities have included involvement in the American Institute of CPAs, the Illinois Society of CPAs, the Turnaround Management Association, the Association for Corporate Growth, and CPAs for the Public Interest. He also is a financial and venture capital adviser for several entrepreneurial companies. He has served on corporate, civic, and religious boards of directors. He lives in Chicago, Illinois with his wife Linda.
Bryan Wagner, Partner
Mr. Wagner joined Creation Investments as a Director in 2013 and became a Partner in 2015. Previously, Mr. Wagner was an Executive Director with Morgan Stanley, where he had leadership responsibility for the Firm’s activities in microfinance. Mr. Wagner has significant microfinance deal experience across Latin America, India, Africa and the U.S., including work on several of the sector’s landmark transactions. Mr. Wagner has also held positions with Morgan Stanley’s Latin America investment banking team, global microfinance non-profit ACCION and the Emerging Markets division of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. He currently serves on the board of Finclusion SAPI de CV ENR in Mexico.
Mr. Wagner holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MPA in International Development from Harvard Kennedy School and a BSBA from UNC-Chapel Hill. Mr. Wagner speaks Spanish and French, having lived and worked in Latin America and West Africa. He lives in Evanston, Illinois with his wife Caroline and three children.
Tyler Day, Director
Mr. Day joined Creation Investments in 2011. Most recently, he was a Technical Advisor to the microfinance institution, Five Talents Uganda in Kampala, Uganda. Prior to that, he was a Financial Analyst in the mergers and acquisitions group at the investment banking firm Houlihan Lokey. While at Houlihan, Mr. Day focused on mergers and acquisitions advisory and private placements of debt and equity. Mr. Day received his Bachelor of Business Administration from the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in Finance. Mr. Day has his Series 7 and Series 63 certifications. He lives in Dallas,Texas with his wife Julie and son Fielding.
